How To Place A Bet On A Fight

broken image

Draws in Proposition Bets. Proposition bets refer to other outcomes in a boxing match besides wins, losses, and draws. For instance, you could bet when a fight ends after a knockout, TKO or stoppage by the referee. Boxing also has over and under bets, in which you wager whether the match ends within six rounds or after six rounds. Round-betting and overall boxing betting strategy finish up the page. Boxing Betting – The Money Line. There are three possible outcomes in any bout, and that is either boxer to win, or the fight to end in a draw. In the money line market, you're betting on which one of the three will happen. Here is an example: Floyd Mayweather Jr -500. Typically, the sportsbook will set a line of 1.5 rounds or 2.5 rounds, and bettors can pick whether the fight will last longer or shorter than the specified time. For a line set at 2.5 rounds, a fight that lasts the distance and goes to a decision will result in successful 'over' bets. A 'To Win Fight' bet in the UFC is no different than when you make a moneyline bet in other North American sports and it's pretty self-explanatory – you're picking which fighter will win the fight. It's often called a straight-up bet at the sportsbook because UFC moneyline betting involves you choosing one fighter to win over the other.

So, you've used our other articles to learn how to bet on MMA, and you've managed to win a bit of cash and hide it from the wife. You've seen the odds on parlay betting, and figured maybe it was time to capitalize on those big odds. How hard can it be, right?

Well unless you've got a crystal ball, parlay betting can be a bit tricky. But once you've got it figured out, you can make some serious cash.

A parlay bet, also known as accumulator in the UK or a combo bet, is a single bet that links several individual wagers together in order to combine the payout odds.

The benefit is a higher payoffs than betting each event individually, with the wide risk of losing all your stake if one of the bets losses. If any of the bets in the parlay result in a 'push' or tie, the parlay moves to a lower number of bets with odds reducing accordingly.

Parlays come after a single bet (doubles are also parlays). 2 bets and beyond are considered parlays, but the different combinations might have other exotic name of their own (source 1).

In the most common of MMA parlays, gamblers need to pick the winner of several fights and win all of them. Make one wrong pick, and you lose the whole bet. This doesn't mean that it's a suckers bet, it just means you need to do a lot of research to determine who to put your money on.

Parlay MMA Odds

Parlay odds pay higher than taking individual bets, but it still pays below true odds. A 2x MMA parlay pays out 2.6x , when true odds should be 3x. That missing payout is considered to be the sportsbook´s fee.

Are MMA Parlay Bets Profitable?

Compared to single bets parlays are way more profitable, the issue stands on the added risk. For parlay betting on MMA you need to master 2 things, fight knowledge and betting strategies:

1. MMA Master Mind. Gamblers need to go beyond the main fights and know their fighters well to figure out what are their true virtues and weaknesses are. Off stream fights offer better odds and underdogs show up every time, you just need to be well informed and follow fighter statistics. Some of the most popular MMA sites offer statistical tools like fightmetrics.com (source 2), the official UFC statistical feed used by sites like ESPN and Yahoo.

2. Betting Strategy. The backbone of any gambler that has ever made money consistently. Professional bettors divide their total bankroll on several sportsbooks, and apply a piece of their entire strategy one each after following 4 basic betting tips. A parlay strategy could include a double bet on one site and a hedge bet on another. Hedge betting is done to offset the cost of a loss with a bet on another sport event, or the same fight but another type of bet.

Bonus: If you are a rookie in sports betting, your best option would be to find successful MMA bettors on social media that offer their services for free or a small fee. You can find tons on Twitter, Facebook or on tipster community sites. Make sure to follow their progress on a spreadsheet before you jump in to follow. They usually apply strategies and have a full understanding of their specialized sport.

Think about different ways you can leverage your risk by betting on different sites and avoiding the limiting conditions on tactics mentioned in the TOS. Bet different stake sizes in order to recover from losing bets on other sites, or use only a portion of your wins to try luck on interesting high paying parlays.

Parlay Payouts

Consider a $100 bet with the stake not included in the payout:

2 team parlay – 13/5 odds, pays $260

3 team parlay – 6/1 odds, pays $600

4 team parlay – 10/1 odds, pays $1000

5 team parlay – 20/1 odds, pays $2,000

6 team parlay – 40/1 odds, pays $4,000

7 team parlay – 75/1 odds, pays $7,500

8 team parlay – 150/1 odds, pays $15,000

9 team parlay – 300/1 odds, pays $30,000

10 team parlay – 700/1 odds, pays $70,000

11 team parlay – 1100/1 odds, pays $110,000

MMA Parlay Example

Let's look at a past event for an example – UFC 111

You've got a $1,000 bankroll on this event. You could split that up, and put $500 on Hardy, $300 on Carwin, and $200 on Brown, and if you win on all 3, you'd profit about $3,159. But if you were to place a parlay bet (+515 Hardy/ +108 Carwin / +130 Brown) and these three picks won, you'd profit about 3 times better – somewhere around $9,479. Not too shabby!

Place

The downside of the parlay, if any one fighter loses – you lose the whole bet. And anyone betting on Hardy over GSP deserves to have someone take their money!

If parlay is the way you want to go, you need to make sure you know who is fighting and what their strengths and weaknesses are. Research the different fighters so you can determine who has the edge in a particular match, and then take a shot. We do recommend beginning with singles, then move to prop bets, and then try out parlays.

Best Place To Bet

If you're going to take parlays, the best risk versus reward strategy is to bet on two or three fights, max. The odds of you picking four or more fights correctly go down substantially, so be smart and bet realistically. Parlay can be a good option, if you have a good strategy. Great risks can have great rewards. I like to keep my parlays for fun, and then put my big money on straight bets.

The UFC is the preeminent MMA promotion in the world. The UFC brand has become synonymous with professional MMA and I would bet that a lot of casual MMA fans wouldn't even be able to name another promotion.

How To Place A Bet On A Fight

The UFC has earned their spot atop the professional MMA landscape building transcendent superstars in the sport such as Conor McGregor, Jon Jones, and Canada's very own Georges St-Pierre, continuing to put together great fights and fight cards, and building the sport across the world.

Over my time covering sports betting, I've noticed that UFC fights really bring out the bettor in sports fans. There's something about two guys getting locked in a cage together and being able to bet on the fights winner that really appeals to people. Because of the number of new Canadian players who make their first online bet on a UFC fight, I wanted to create this page.

On this page I will outline our #1 recommended sportsbook for Canadians looking to bet on a UFC fight and touch on some of the different bets you can make on a fight (with examples). At the bottom of the page I will provide a simple 3 step guide you can follow to quickly and easily get your bets placed on the upcoming UFC fights online.

SportsInteraction.com is our top rated betting site for wagering on UFC fights. They offer fair odds and a wide variety of betting options for each fight. I'll provide examples of some of the bets they offer with screenshots below.

Popular UFC Betting Options

Most people just want to bet one who will win the fight, but there are several other bets you can make on a UFC fight including round totals, round props, method of victory props and more. I'll touch on a few with examples below.

To Win Fight

When you go to the UFC section of the sportsbook (MMA -> Mixed Martial Arts at SportsInteraction.com) the odds to win each fight will be displayed. You will have to click on a specific fight to see the other betting options that we will get into more below.

So as you can imagine when betting on who will win the fight all you need is for that fighter to have their hand raised at the end of the fight. Whether that win is a knockout, submission, decision or DQ, it doesn't matter as long as your fighter gets the W next to his name after the fight.

Here's an example of how the odds look at Sports Interaction from the Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier fight at UFC 257:

In this example, Conor McGregor is about a 3-1 favourite to win the fight. A $100 bet on McGregor pays out $132 if he wins, while a $100 bet on Poirier pays out $330 if he pulls off the upset.

You can see you can click the title of the fight to see all of the other bets you can make on this fight.

How To Place Bets Online

How to bet on games

Round Totals (Over/Under)

With the total rounds prop you are wagering on how long the fight will last. Here's an example from the above fight:

This fight is not expected to make it to the third round. If you bet $100 on the under at odds of 1.59 and there is finish before the 2:30 mark of the 3rd round, then you would receive a payout of $159. If the fight gets past the 2:30 mark of round 3 then over bets would payout ($100 pays $235).

**The .5 does mean half way through the round. So the only way this bet could be a push is if the fight ended with exactly 2 minutes and 30 seconds left in the 3rd round.

Method Of Victory Props

The method of victory props are my favourite UFC bets. With this prop you bet on exactly how the fight will end, whether it be one fighter to win by decision, KO/TKO, submission, any finishing method, etc.

Here's an example of the method of victory props from the McGregor vs Poirier fight at UFC 257:

The most likely results is McGregor to win by knockout. A $100 bet on McGregor to win via knockout pays $153, and by decision would pay $785. If McGregor pulls off an unlikely submission win then a $100 bet on an McGregor submission would pay $1400. If you think Poirier will win it could be by any method. All three of his methods of victory payout more than $500 on a $100 wager.

I find you can get an edge betting on this type of prop on an MMA fight, especially if you have a clear idea of how the fight will play out.

The other type of UFC prop bet you can make is the round betting. With round betting you bet on a certain fighter to finish the fight in a specific round. This type of prop can pay big returns, but it's very difficult to bet unless you expect a fighter to steamroll an opponent with a first round finish.
